ABOUT "BOND FOR LIFE"
A mother grazes with her baby in the Elicharro Plains in Mara North Conservancy.
This matriarch was leader of a herd of elephant that made Mara North their home for most of the month that I was there. Following the example set by this individual, they all had a very assured and calm demeanour. Occasionally she would get inquisitive and come for a closer look, but was always unfazed by my presence.
Although always keeping half an eye on her calf, and regularly coming together to share a moment, she was also happy to let her baby wander off as they grazed in the Elicharro Plains. This is no doubt an area that they will spend a lifetime returning to together.
