This collection of images is from ‘Individuals’, Matthew's debut solo exhibition in London in 2023, and further trips in 2024 when he expanded on the project.
'Individuals' focuses on telling the stories of the animals I have spent time with in the Maasai Mara. Each character has their own personal story, unique history, and uncertain future. They have distinctive personalities, close bonds, feared enemies, and emotions as strong as your own. Visiting the same individuals every single day, I feel like I know their stories and care for them on a deeply personal level. By highlighting these personal stories, showing animals to be emotional individuals rather than just an anonymous statistic in a wider population, I hope to promote a desire to protect and care for this precious wildlife.
Photographs have the power to create real impact, and make a genuine difference in protecting wildlife. I am passionate about supporting conservation through my work, and donate 10% of proceeds from the Individuals Collection to the Mara Predator Conservation Programme (MPCP) to support the amazing work that they do in the Maasai Mara. These donations have already funded the running of one of their conservation clubs for a year, and purchased numerous camera trap to help monitor predator behaviours.
